Back To Bonded Bead FAQ List - Can filling the cavities lead to moisture crossing to the inside wall?
-
With polystyrene beads this cannot happen because the material does not soak liquid. Drinking cups are made from it because of this quality. When you drink from such a cup you notice the heat from the drink cannot penetrate the thin wall of the cup. This will give you some idea of how little heat can pass through a 2½ to 4 inch thickness of the same material in a wall cavity. Every bead has a single point of contact with each of the surrounding beads, allowing the cavity to breathe and any moisture penetrating the outer leaf to drain away immediately.

Yes the Irish Agrément Board certifies that "Bonded Beads will not transmit water across the cavity or from below the Damp Proof Course Level.". In twenty years of use, no failure of this product has ever been reported.
Back To Bonded Bead FAQ List - What is the Irish Agrément Board?
-
The Irish Agrément Board is an official body designated by the Irish government to issue certification for construction products and systems. An Irish Agrément Board certificate proves that the certified products are manufactured from proper materials and suitable for the intended use under Irish site conditions, and in accordance with the Building Regulations 1997 to 2002.
Back To Bonded Bead FAQ List - Are polybeads environmentally safe?
-
Yes. In fact, polystyrene is used throughout the food and catering industry.
Back To Bonded Bead FAQ List - How will I know that enough bead has been blown into the wall and that the job is being carried out properly?
-
Beads cannot be compressed into small bales to take up less space or 'fluffed up' to take up more space. If not enough material is injected into the wall then the top of the cavity will be without bead. When the filling process is complete you can inspect the cavity and see for yourself the result of the installation. We will show you the beads in the cavity before we block the drill holes.
Back To Bonded Bead FAQ List - Because you are not compressing the material within the cavity, do you need to drill as many holes as other systems where a given density must be achieved?
-
No, much fewer holes are required. We drill mainly at the top of the area we wish to fill and under windows. In a typical gable wall, only about half the number of holes are required to blow bonded bead as are needed with other systems.

Back To EcoBead FAQ List - Why do you need to visit my dwelling before installation?
-
It is necessary to perform a site audit to assess if your property is suitable for the Ecobead system. Not all homes are suitable depending on construction type and location.
EcoWarm Insulations will conduct a site audit, discussing with you the process and time required. In most cases it will be necessary to have access to all sides of you property, so please advise if there are any special considerations with regards to work hours.
EcoWarm Insulations will will complete a pre-installation survey sheet detailing the exact areas to be insulated, the property etc. We have a comprehensive 30 point check list for each property. This extensive check will ensure that our installation team will complete their work in the optimum time.
It may also be necessary to do some minor work to ensure the Ecobead is installed safely, such work may include slieving wall vents, sealing cracks in block-work, brick work etc. You may agree to do this work yourself prior to installation or ask the Ecobead installer to carry our remedial work. An extra charge may apply for this work.
Back To EcoBead FAQ List - What happens on the day of the installation?
-
The EcoWarm Insulations installation team will call to your home and, before commencing work they will identify themselves as an authorized Ecobead installer. Licensed Ecobead installers must present you with an identification card bearing their photo.
During preparation for installation, the team will consult the pre-audit check-sheet and compose a drill pattern for your home. They will then drill a series of 22mm holes in the outer leaf (block-work) of your property according to the drill pattern. If you have a brick facade the holes will be drilled in the mortar joints to minimize the aesthetic impact on your property.
When the drilling is complete the team will commence filling the cavity, during this time it will be necessary to operate a diesel compressor, this will result in increased noise so it is a good idea keep pets inside if possible. Our installation team will not operate the compressor unless filling is in progress.
When the filling process is complete the team will block up the drilled holes with a white cement putty. This will require painting in a few days to restore the property to pre-installation condition. At this point, if you wish to see for yourself the result of the installation we will show you the beads in the cavity before we block the drill holes.
The EcoWarm Insulations installation team will then pack up their equipment and leave the your home as they found it.
